Thunder Mountain Bike Park Ambassadors

The Thunder Mountain Bike Park Ambassador team is a group of athletes who embody the spirit of the bike park and share it with the community as a whole.

They’re the riders constantly lapping the lift lines with a smile, leading trains on the jump line, and helping others figure out the line on a feature. They travel all around to ride but are proud to call Thunder Mountain their home base.

They represent the values of the park and are standout individuals on and off the bike.

Meet our team!

He’s earned 4 National Championship Titles, a World Record, over 100 pro podium finishes, and developed a popular YouTube channel called Trail Boss. On top of being a professional athlete, Lenosky also coaches MTB and frequently hosts his Trail Boss Academy at Thunder Mountain, looking to help riders take their skills to the next level.

Maddy Anzellotti

Bikes have been a cornerstone of Maddy Anzellotti’s life since she could walk. Originally from Rotorua, New Zealand, Anzellotti now calls the East Coast home and rides her bike as much as possible. Passionate about all things two wheels, 15-year-old Anzellotti can be found racing enduros, competing in whip-offs, and riding in party trains at Thunderstruck - our women’s freeride event. Whatever terrain you throw at her, she loves to find a way to ride it smooth and stylish.

Tucker Shearer

Tucker Shearer

Tucker Shearer is a mountain bike enthusiast from North Western CT. He’s been riding since 2019 and is a jack of all trades on a bike. He’s known for big endurance rides, hitting big jumps and racing enduro at the local Eastern States Cup races. Since going pro in ESC he’s won six times and podiumed 16 times, and also placed 11th at US Nationals in pro. Outside of racing, he’s a fanatic of long endurance challenges, once riding 170 miles with 16k feet of climbing from his house in CT to Thunder and back. He also coaches on a youth MTB team, and works as a chimney sweep.

Each fall, 25+ of the world's top and rising female talent gather at Thunder Mountain Bike Park to showcase their riding on the iconic Fort Hill jumps. Kajay’s goal with Thunderstruck was to expand opportunities for female riders in the Northeast while showcasing what this region has to offer.

Ellen also raced on the Cross Country World Cup circuit for a number of years. During “retirement” she dipped her toes into gravity racing, finishing 6th overall in 2023’s ESC Pro Women Enduro category. Now, back to professional racing, Noble competes in Cyclocross, Downhill, and Enduro. Beyond races, Ellen announces televised World Cups, coaches for USA cycling, and runs youth cycling camps for girls. Most of all, she is passionate about inspiring the next generation of riders.

Ellen Noble

Lindsey Runkel

Lindsey Runkel is an adaptive mountain biker and High Fives athlete passionate about riding at the park and sending jumps. She discovered cycling in 2010, originally dabbling in road biking, but her co-workers convinced her to try mountain biking shortly after. A week later, she sold her road bike and went all in on mountain biking. In 2014, Runkel crashed while riding and fractured her T5 and T6 vertebrae, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down. Determined to keep riding, Runkel was back on an adaptive mountain bike at Thunder Mountain Bike the next year. In addition to riding Runkel mono-skis and surfs, and competes on a sled hockey team and in Spartan Races.

CHAIRLIFT RIDE

Enjoy a beautifully scenic chairlift ride to the summit of Berkshire East Mountain Resort. Chairlift rides are open on days that the Thunder Mountain Bike Park is operating and the lift is spinning.

Rise to the Top on our new High Speed Chairlift, the T-Bar!

This lift will take you from the Base Area to the Summit of Berkshire East in just a few minutes so you can enjoy the stunning bird's-eye view of the Deerfield River Valley.

The video below will explain how to load and unload the lift; please watch prior to riding.

Once at the Summit, a short hiking trail is marked for you to follow for the best overlook.  A couple of picnic tables are provided for you to enjoy and take in the view.

You're welcome to bring up snacks, lunch, and non-alcoholic beverages.  Please remember to bring your trash back down with you or use the recepticles provided near the lifts.

During special events our Patrollers will often host a BBQ Fundrasier at the summit to help raise money to support the Thunder Mountain Bike Park Patrol and Berkshire East Ski Patrol.

The last Scenic Chairlift Ride will be offered 45 minutes prior to park closure to provide ample time to take in the view and ride the lift back down before closing for the day.

Summer FAQ

THINGS TO KNOW

Summer FAQ

LEARN BEFORE YOU LEAP It's important to know what you are getting into. If you have questions that are not here, please call customer service at 413.339.6618, or email info@berkshireeast.com

  • HOW DO I BOOK A TOUR?

Reservations may be made in one of three ways:

    1. Book now, using our online reservation system.
    2. Over the Phone 413.339.6618 ext. 2.
    3. On-site as a walk-in customer.

If you want to zip that day, we will do our best to accommodate you, however, we cannot always guarantee you a spot if you want to go the same day. Reservations are strongly suggested. Phone reservations can be made with a BECT customer service representative at 413.339.6618 during normal business hours. Online reservations may be made at any time. Full payment is expected up-front when you make your reservation.

  • WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?

Participants will be given a harness and a helmet. These will be worn over your clothes, so please be sure to wear clothing that will fit comfortably under these items. Longer shorts or pants are recommended. Participants are required to have close-toed shoes; hiking shoes or sneakers work the best. No sandals, water shoes, or high heels.

Sunscreen, bug spray, and sunglasses are recommended. Be aware of ticks and please wear tick repellent or clothing saturated with tick repellent.  If wearing glasses, be sure to have something to secure them to your head. Long hair and dangling jewelry must be secured. We do zip in the rain, so in the event of inclement weather, make sure to bring your rain gear.

  • WEIGHT, HEIGHT, AGE LIMITATIONS

For the Base Area tour, participants must be at least 7 years old and weigh between 50 and 275 lbs. For the Mountain Top Tour, participants must be at least 8 years old and weigh between 70 and 275 lbs. For the Valley Jump Tour, participants must be at least 12 years old and weigh between 100 and 260 lbs. For the safety of our guests, we are strict about these rules.

Berkshire East Canopy Tours reserves the right to weigh our guests, and we routinely do so for safety purposes. There are no height restrictions. Please note our tours are not suitable for women who are pregnant, or anyone with certain existing medical or mental conditions. Please know yourself.

  • DO ALL PARTICIPANTS NEED TO SIGN A WAIVER?

A waiver form is required from all participants. The waiver is sent electronically during the booking process. Those under the age of 18 will need to have their parent or guardian complete the digital waiver for them. You may also complete the electronic waiver upon your arrival during the check-in process.

  • HOW MUCH PHYSICAL EXERTION WILL BE REQUIRED?

The Base Area and Mountain Top Tours involve walking short distances on well-maintained trails, so guests must be prepared for hiking. Our Valley Jump Tour requires a fairly challenging uphill hike of approximately 10 minutes, as well as shorter walks in between all of the individual zips.

  • HOW DOES BERKSHIRE EAST CANOPY TOURS COMPARE TO OTHER ZIP LINE COMPANIES?

Favorably! Not many canopy tours offer our complement of zip lines, lift rides, and experience. We offer some of the longest zip lines in North America, we have a great mountain top tour, and we have a great introductory tour. We’ve had guests from all over the world! Not to mention a lot of repeat business from around Western Massachusetts. Most people leave wanting more. Our core policy is to give people the experience of a lifetime.

  • WHAT IS THE BERKSHIRE EAST TIPPING POLICY?

Similar to other service industries, if a guest feels like he or she has received exceptional service, a tip for the guides is encouraged. A great deal of training and attention to detail has gone into the preparation and execution of each tour. All of our guides enjoy their job, and we expect that each of our guests will receive the highest level of service and care. If you feel like you have experienced an exceptional tour, it is likely due to the professional and diligent approach of your guides. If you plan to tip your guides, we ask that you please bring cash, as we are unable to process tips on a credit card. We do have an ATM onsite, and there is a $2.00 processing fee for any cash withdrawal.

  • IS THERE A DRUG & ALCOHOL POLICY?

This is very simple, NO DRUGS OR ALCOHOL prior to your experience. We need you lucid! Participants will not be allowed to zip line if they are under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Berkshire East reserves the right to dismiss participants, and refunds will not be granted.

  • CAN I BRING A CAMERA?

Yes, you can bring a camera with an appropriate security strap. Please note that we do not provide photography services at this time.

  • CAN I BRING MY PET?

No. For the well-being of your pet and the safety of other guests, we do not allow pets on our premises. This includes anywhere on our grounds or facilities. Pets should not be left unattended in your vehicles.

  • WHAT CAN I BRING WITH ME ON MY TOUR?

Backpacks are permitted for your water bottle, camera, or other necessary personal items. Be sure you have appropriate security straps attached to any electronics or cameras and everything is securely attached to you. We suggest you use straps to secure your eyeglasses or sunglasses. We strongly suggest that any unnecessary valuables be left at home or safely locked in your vehicle.

Zipline Customer Service can hold car keys (no other items). Our guides are not allowed to carry your personal items for you while you are on the tour. If you carry an EpiPen or other necessary medication, please let your guides know. Please be advised that we are not responsible if you lose items or if they are stolen while on our premises.

  • ARE THERE REFRESHMENTS?

The Thunder Mountain BBQ serves lunch from 11:00am to 5:00pm when the Bike Park is open. Choices vary from day to day, but include a mix of salads and cold sandwiches. Burgers and hot sandwiches are available on weekends. Coffee, drinks, and snacks are also available at the BBQ.

We also have beer available to purchase for individuals 21 years of age and older after 12:00pm during operating hours. Please remember that alcohol may not be consumed prior to zip lining.

  • WHAT IF I AM SCARED OF HEIGHTS?

Most participants are surprised with the level of safety and comfort experienced during their tour. Our guides are sensitive to our guests fears and are practiced in helping new riders work through any initial apprehensions. Our entire zip line system is engineered for safety and employs a passive gravity braking system, which allows riders an added level of assurance. Essentially, all the rider needs to do is sit back and enjoy the ride and the incredible views.

  • WHAT ARE YOUR AGE AND PRICE DEFINITIONS?

Youth= age 7-16, Adults= age 17+, Seniors= age 65+, Military= Active or retired military person(s) with a Military ID or other proof of service.

  • INCLEMENT WEATHER?

Please note that Berkshire East does not cancel tours for rain or other minor inclement weather. We run our tours rain or shine, regardless of the temperatures, so come prepared with rain gear and warm clothes if rain or cold temperatures are forecasted. However, in the event of high winds or lightning, we may have to postpone or cancel a tour. In these instances, you could experience a weather delay while we wait for a storm to pass. If Berkshire East makes a decision to cancel or postpone your tour for any reason, we will try to accommodate you by asking you to return later that day, rescheduling you to come another day, or we will refund the money you paid to us if rescheduling is not an option.

  • WHAT FORMS OF PAYMENT ARE ACCEPTABLE?

We accept cash, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express. We do not accept personal checks. If you have a gift certificate or a voucher to use, you can enter the voucher number on the payment screen when making your online reservation.

Fort Hill

THINGS TO KNOW

FORT HILL

PRO LINE AT THUNDER MOUNTAIN BIKE PARK

Fort Hill is full on! With the highest difficulty designation of Pro Line, it consists of a series of MANDATORY GAPS, MANDATORY DROPS, and LARGE WOODEN FEATURES. This trail is designed to be a high speed jump trail for the highest level of rider. We are opening the top section of the trail while we continue to build out the rest of the features. As we continue to build the trail, we will continue to open up features. Stay Tuned!

Fort Hill is for the highest level rider. Failure to ride this trail properly may result in serious injury or even death. Ride at your own risk.

  • ALWAYS INSPECT the trail before riding it! Fort Hill parallels Thunder ski trail, so take a walk and visually inspect first.
  • PROGRESS through trails. Start on easier trails, and always make sure you feel comfortable and confident before moving to bigger features and trails. For example: Gronk > Hawleywood > Fort Hill
  • RIDE SMART – Ride Fort Hill for yourself, not for others. If you are tired or aren’t feeling on your game, wait.
  • BAIL when needed. You can always leave the trail and walk back up or continue down an alternate route.
  • CONDITIONS CHANGE – Be aware of changing conditions, such as wind or rain. Don’t ride when wet or windy!

For the right rider, Fort Hill provides some of the most progressive freeriding on the planet. The siege is on!

    DEVO Program Frequently Asked Questions

    • Why is the program called Devo?

The Thunder Mountain Development program is designed to give young riders a strong foundation of the fundamentals of mountain biking. Many will take these skills and go on to race XC, Enduro or Downhill, while others will continue on as recreational riders.

    • What if my child wants to race?

    • My child is already riding Hawleywood and Fort Hill. Is this the right program for them?

Congrats on raising the next phenom, however, Devo is probably not the right fit for your family. Most groups will max out their jumping progression on Gronk, our blue jump trail. A couple of groups typically advance to Hawleywood. Devo exists to grow the general mountain bike community in Western Massachusetts, not to coach elite-level athletes.

    • What is the typical group size?

Groups typically range from 4 to 7 kids.

    • Can we request that my child be placed in the same group as their friend?

Yes, we will do our best to accommodate these requests when possible. Please remember that learning is more conducive when kids are with peers of a similar ability. If friends request to be together, the stronger rider will be placed in a group that is the best fit for the weaker rider. Ultimately, we will put the students' safety and learning potential before requests to be with friends.

    • As a parent can I ride along with my child's group?

We ask that you please give our coaches and your child space. This is a great opportunity for parents to explore the bike park and the Deerfield River Trails free of kids.

    • Does the program need volunteers?

Yes. We like to pair one parent volunteer with each group. Please let us know if you are interested in helping out.

    • Should I tip my child's instructor?

If you feel like your child's instructor did an exceptional job, it is appropriate to tip them at the end of the season.

    Cancellation Policy

We retain a 5% cancellation fee for any cancellations made more than 30 days in advance of your scheduled program. All reservations are non-refundable 30 days or less to your scheduled program. Exceptions to this policy will be made for injury with a signed doctor's note. We will not prorate missed days.

    GRAVITY TEAM PROGRAM OUTLINE

Practices will be held at Thunder Mountain Bike Park every Thursday during the summer. Athletes will ride with coaches and team members, focusing on a combination of drills, freeriding and timed practice runs. Although we will target race specific training, the overarching goal of the program is two fold. One, we want young athletes to progress their riding by developing sound fundamentals. Two, we want kids to simply love mountain biking and racing. Not only will the program challenge your child, it will put them in a social environment that could lead to lifelong outdoor friendships.

Team members are expected to make 80% or more of the practices at Thunder. Although there is no requirement to race, we hope that your child can attend one or more of the Eastern States Cup race weekends during the summer. Thunder Mountain Bike Park will provide coaching and support at the “home” race on July 20th and 21st. Families will travel to “away” races without the official support of coaches. Typically parents work with one another to create a team atmosphere at races. We encourage families to travel, camp and race together.

For a second season, we are excited to have Ellen Noble at the coaching helm. As a former Trek Factory Racing and Red Bull athlete, Noble is no stranger to the big leagues. In the first stint of her pro-career, Noble won three U-23 Cyclocross National Championships, a Pan-American Championship and scored a second place podium at the UCI CX World Championships. In addition to dominating cyclocross, Ellen raced on the Cross Country World Cup circuit for a number of years. During “retirement” she dipped her toes into the world of gravity racing, finishing 6th overall in last year's Eastern States Cup Pro Women Enduro category. Recently announcing a return to professional racing, Noble will again race Cyclocross and continue on her quest for Downhill and Enduro podiums. In addition to racing, Ellen announces televised World Cups, coaches for USA cycling and runs her own youth cycling camps for girls. Most of all, she is passionate about inspiring the next generation of riders.

        GRAVITY Team Frequently Asked Questions

        • How do I find out more about the program?

        • Is the program right for my child if they have never raced mountain bikes before?

Prior racing experience certainly will help, however it is not required. If your child is a proficient mountain biker, this is a great opportunity for them to get into racing at a young age.

        • I am a parent and I don’t ride mountain bikes. I am worried about supporting my child at races.

Most race venues are easily hikable and only allow spectators on foot. We encourage experienced race families to help less experienced parents at races.

        • I am worried my child’s bike isn’t suitable for racing.

Old or under-maintained mountain bikes pose a big safety risk for racing. Parents must provide their children with a suitable full suspension bike. Ask your local shop for help, or come into the service shop at Thunder to ask questions.

        • Do I have to accompany my child at races?

No, however Thunder Mountain Bike Park is not responsible for athletes outside of practice times. You may coordinate with other parents for supervision at races.

        • Does the Thunder Mountain Gravity Team only attend Eastern States Cup Races?

Athletes may enter any race they like wearing their TMGT jersey, however we only provide coaching at the July 20th & 21st "home race" at Thunder Mountain.

        • What is the Eastern States Cup?

The ESC is a race series based in the Northeast that hosts Enduro and Downhill races for people of all ages.

        • Does the Thunder Mountain Gravity Team race cross country?

          No

        • Should I tip my child's coach?

If you feel like your child's coach did an exceptional job, it is appropriate to tip them at the end of the season.
