CHAIRLIFT RIDE

Enjoy a beautifully scenic chairlift ride to the summit of Berkshire East Mountain Resort. Chairlift rides are open on days that the Thunder Mountain Bike Park is operating and the lift is spinning.

Rise to the Top on our new High Speed Chairlift, the T-Bar!

This lift will take you from the Base Area to the Summit of Berkshire East in just a few minutes so you can enjoy the stunning bird's-eye view of the Deerfield River Valley.

The video below will explain how to load and unload the lift; please watch prior to riding.

Once at the Summit, a short hiking trail is marked for you to follow for the best overlook.  A couple of picnic tables are provided for you to enjoy and take in the view.

You're welcome to bring up snacks, lunch, and non-alcoholic beverages.  Please remember to bring your trash back down with you or use the recepticles provided near the lifts.

During special events our Patrollers will often host a BBQ Fundrasier at the summit to help raise money to support the Thunder Mountain Bike Park Patrol and Berkshire East Ski Patrol.

The last Scenic Chairlift Ride will be offered 45 minutes prior to park closure to provide ample time to take in the view and ride the lift back down before closing for the day.

Scenic Chairlift Ride FAQs

Where do I register (pay for and sign a waiver) for a scenic chairlift ride?

The Welcome Center can help guests register for a scenic chairlift ride, sign a waiver, and get a wristband.

Where do I load for a scenic lift ride?

Loading for a scenic chairlift ride is coordinated by the lift operator. Follow the signage for scenic chairlift riders and the lift operator will help you with the loading process. Please watch our “How to Take a Scenic Chairlift Ride” video in advance to best prepare for your visit.

At the top, can we stay on the lift and ride down?

Unfortunately no, all guests need to unload from the lift when they get to the top. In order to take the chairlift back down the mountain please see the operators at the top of the T-Bar lift and they will help you begin the downloading process.

What is there to do at the top?

There are scenic overlooks a short distance away from the top of the lift.  Please clear the lift offload area, and refrain from walking on mountain bike trails when exploring around the top of the mountain. There are two hiking trails that guests can explore if interested. The summit trail loops around the summit area, and Thunder descends back to the base area. Hiking trails are marked with white stakes.

How many people can fit on one chair?

Both chairlifts are designed to transport 4 people per carrier.  Children and babies are counted towards the total number of passengers per chair.  If your group is larger than four we will divide you up between multiple chairs.

Is there an age/height requirement?

Anyone can take a scenic chairlift ride as long as they are able to sit securely and firmly in the chair. All riders should be familiar with and comply with the “Responsibility Code” as it pertains to chairlifts.  Infants are able to ride as long as they are secured to an adult with an infant carrier.

When is the last ride up /down?

The last scenic chairlift ride to the top of the mountain will be 45 minutes prior to lift closure.

The last scenic chairlift ride down the mountain will be 15 minutes prior to lift closure.

If you miss the last chair down to base, you will need to hike from the summit down to the base via the hiking trail, Thunder.

Can I bring my dog?

No.  Dogs and other pets are not allowed on the chairlift.
